Harvey Thomas LIPE died this afternoon, February 7th, at his home north of Benton, following a four days illness of pneumonia. He was born 16 September 1892, the son of the late John and Eliza LIPE. He married on 24 November 1923 to Miss Tennie DAVIS. Harvey was about 16 years old when his mother departed this life. His father died some 10-12 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Tennie DAVIS LIPE, three sisters, Miss Flora LIPE of Kankakee, Illinois; Mrs. Maggie POOLE and Mrs. Julie WILDY of Benton; three brothers, George, William and Henry LIPE of Benton, and a half-brother, Charles LIPE of Mt. Vernon. Burial will take place at Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery. (combined with article 8 Feb. 1940 and obit carried 19 Feb. 1940)

Benton Evening News, 28 July 1926 issue:
Mrs. Martha J. Isaacs Adams was b. to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Odle near Akin, Ill. 9 Feb 1867, and passed away at the residence of her daughter, Thursday, 22 July 1926, aged 59 yrs. 4 mo. 13 da. On 29 June 1882 she mar. William Isaacs and to this union was born five children: William, Ben, Claude, Mrs. Cora Stark, and Mrs. Mae Doxie all of Benton. In 1887 the family moved to Oklahoma, where Mr. Isaacs died. In the course of time Mrs. Isaacs and her family returned to Benton, where on 1 May 1889 she married Roy Adams. To this union the following children were born: Mrs. Edna Akin of Benton; Mrs. Ruby Lee Adams of Chicago, and one son Richard, who d. infancy. She was loved by her step children, Harry and Obed Adams; W. M. Cochran, and by her brother Riley Odle. Her dau. Ruby is now an invalid in Chicago. She had thirty grandchildren, of whom 12 were honorary pallbearers.

Obits & Tidbits 1935-1936 (PULLIAM 1997) pg 56-57, 10 Jan 1936 Mrs. Lou Eva LANCE, 52, wife of Ed LANCE, met a tragic death while polishing her stove when the rag she was using burst into flame and enveloped her body in fire. Death relieved her agonies yesterday afternoon. She was a daughter of Thomas (HATCHETT jm) and Cordelia LAMPLEY and was born in the Webb's Hill community. Early in life she wed C. E. MOORE and three years ago was wedded to LANCE. she leaves her children: Robert MOORE, at home, Paul MOORE, Chalon MOORE, and Mrs. Dorothy MATHIS of Chicago, Mrs. Connie JENKINS and Mrs. Hazel WHITTINGTON, of Benton, and Mrs. Lillie WAYMAN, of Whittington. She also leaves one brother, Lawrence HATCHETT, Benton; two sisters, Mrs. Cora CLARK and Mrs. Iva SULLIVAN, also of Benton. She was also a half-sister to Fred SHERMAN and Vallie HATCHETT (others listed but too faint to read). Her step-mother, Mrs. Mary HATCHETT also survives with two stepsons and one step-daughter.

Clara Brown says that there are "lots of graves marked with concrete blocks only and probably others with out any markers. There are about 50 markers, some readable and others not readable. There are 5 Civil War soldiers markers. The oldest marked burial is in 1852, a SULCER child and the last one 1925. It was surveyed by the State of Illinois July 5, 1906."
