JAMES CLARK

Immigrant on the "Hector" in 1637

James Clark, of New Haven, son of John Clark, born 1636, of New Haven, Ct., died 1688/9 New Haven, and probably buried on the "Green" there. He married 7 October 1657 Abigail Lothrop, daughter of Rev. John and Ann Lothrop, baptized 2 November 1639 at Barnstable, Ma., and died before October of 1661. James Clark settled first in Boston in 1637, but was an original settler, founder, and first planter at New Haven in 1638. He signed the original agreement, the Civil Compact or Plantation Covenant entered into by the first settlers of New Haven in 1639.
