Funeral home records can give a lot of genealogical information. It is a little known Franklin County resource. It usually gives the the following information: The name of the deceased. The address of the deceased. The spouse of the deceased. The date and place of death. Their birth date and place. The fathers name and place of birth. The mothers maiden name and place of birth. The place of burial. Their social security number. Sometimes it tells if they were a member of the armed forces or a lodge or union.
There are a few funeral home records scattered around the county for the researcher to use. The Benton Public Library has several old Mitchell Funeral Home books in their genealogy room. The Zeigler Public Library has some Vantrease funeral home books. And the Frankfort Area Genealogy Society has several funeral home books. They also have a copy of the cemetery records of the Odd Fellow's cemetery at the south edge of Benton. I do not have a list of all the funeral homes in the county. Some are Vantrease, Mitchell, Stone, Union, Reedy now called Parker Reedy. There are others. If you write for copies of these records be sure and inquire about their fee first and please include an sase.
