JOHN LUDWIG SNYDER

John Ludwig Snyder
Born: August 5th, 1746 Michnelstadt, Germany
Died: March 23rd, 1860 New Washington, Clearfield Co., Penn. Aged 113y 7m 16d
Immigrated to America in 1758 at the age of 12
Married: Anna Maria Gilman
He lived in Pennsylvania 101 years, 7 months, and 18 days.
Enlisted in 1776 as a Private from Penn., fighting through the whole war. PA17585
He was with Washington when he crossed the Delaware on Christmas night, 1776.
Fought in the Battle of Trenton, the 26th of December. Day was breaking when he 
helped drive the Hessians out during a thick snowstorm. 
He fought in the battles of Germantown, and Brandywine.
He was encamped with Washington at Valley Forge, December 11, 1777, 
saying that the winter of that year was the coldest he had ever experienced. 
Our troops, he told, "shot squirrels and drew their skins over their feet for shoes." 
He left four generations of descendants to nearly three hundred. 
He was a gunsmith, making a perfect one at age of 107. 
He never missed a presidential election.
