William R. Jones, ex-sheriff of Franklin County, was born in the same, August 2, 1848, the son of Wylie and Elizabeth J. (Chenault) Jones, natives respectively of this county and Tennessee. Our subject was reared on a farm, and secured a good education at Ewing College. He began the study of law under Judge Duff after leaving college, and in 1868 was admitted to the bar. He practiced but a little time, and then engaged in the mercantile business in Benton until 1875, also running a grist-mill part of this time. He then engaged in farming and stock dealing. In 1880 he was elected sheriff of Franklin County, and re-elected in 1882, his last term expiring in 1886. Since then he has given his attention to, farming, and also acted as deputy sheriff. August 7, 1871, he married Rosella M. Wilbanks, of this county. Three daughters are living. Mr. [Moore?] is a Democrat, and as such was elected to the office of sheriff. He is a Mason and a member of the I. 0. 0. F. and K. of H., and is one of Franklin's reliable citizens.
