SAMUEL RIDLEN ANCESTRY

Samuel Ridlen /Redlon was born 10 June 1792 in Phillipsburgh Twp, Mass., now Hollis, Maine. He was the son of Abraham and Patience (Tibbetts) Ridlen. In 1800 Abraham moved with his family to Cincinnati, Ohio. This is where Samuel married on 18 July 1813 his wife Sarah, daughter of Henry & Elizabeth Davis.
To this union nine children were born:
Lucinda b. 1814 Oh;
Patience b. 1816, d.y.;
Elizabeth md Brooks Ross;
Prudence b. 1818 md Howell Mulford;
Nancy b. 1818 Oh d.y.;
Jane b. 31 Dec 1820, md. 1st a Duncan, and md. 2nd. 25 Dec 1856 Franklin Co. IL, Walter S. Aiken of Benton, IL;
Martha Ann b. 1824 did not marry;
Sarah Ann b. 10 Jun 1826 Oh., d. 29 Oct 1891age 65y 4m 19d md. Josiah Alexander of Webbs Prairie;
Samuel Davis, the only son b. 1832 Oh, md. Margaret Beard and settled first at Memphis, Tn, then moved to Webbs Prairie where he d. 5 June 1876.

Samuel died in 1878 at the age of 86 and is buried in the Liberty Ridlen cemetery that he donated the land for. His wife Sarah (Davis) Ridlen died in 1857. They are buried in the Liberty Ridlen cemetery.

Samuel Ridlen served in the 4th Ohio Regt. as a Sergeant under Captain S. B. Kyler and Col. Findley in the War of 1812. He enlisted from Cincinnati, Ohio and served from 25 April 1812 to 24 April 1815. For this he was granted bounty warrants for 160 acres in Franklin County, in the area known as "Egypt", in southern Illinois. This land was in "Webbs Prairie", Northern township.

Abraham Ridlen, the son of Matthias and Rachel (Edgecomb) Ridlen, born 21Sep 1763 at Saco ME, died Adams, Decatur Co IN 9 Oct 1852. Abraham married 23 Aug 1786 by Rev John Fairfield, Patience, daughter of Samuel Tibbetts, and grand daughter of Henry and Eliza Tibbetts. Patience was born 1 June 1770 York Co ME, and died 11 Oct 1847 in Decatur Co. IN. Abraham was living with his son Stephen in the 1850 Adams, Decatur Co, IN census at age 87 and widowed.

Matthias Ridlen / Redlon Sr, son of Magnus and Susannah (Young) Redlon was born 19 Sep 1728 in York Co ME, formerly in the Massachusetts district., and died about 1810. He married 29 Dec 1748, Rachel, daughter of Robert Edgecomb. Rachel was born 23 May 1730 Saco, ME, and died about 1820. Matthias Redlon Sr. served in the Revolutionary War. Magnus Redlon immigrated to America in 1717. He was born in 1698 in Shetland, on the north coast of Scotland. Magnus settled in York, in York Co, Maine, province of Massachusetts where he married in 1720 Susannah, dau of Matthew Young, and grand daughter of Roland and Susannah Young of Kittery, and was also from Scotland.
Magnus made his will in 1766 and died in 1772 at the age of 78. Susannah was born 23 Nov 1701 Scotland, and died in 1730. She had married first Ichabod Austin.
Magnus married 2nd Massie ____ . Magnus was a noted scout in the Indian Wars along the New England Coast.
